Word came in last night that Doug Martin and Tampa were close to making a deal. Martin was second in the league in rushing in 2015 with 1,402 and was key in helping take pressure of of Jameis Winston and the passing game.
The deal is reported to be worth 6.85 million according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Tribune. Martin had been riddled by injuries in 2013 and 2014 and looked nothing like the back who dominated the league in his rookie season, But bounced back to form last year.
It seems Martin may have been able to get more money elsewhere, but his desire to remain in Tampa was key to the agreement being reached.
